BU helped to build and sharpen my scientist profile. I became open-minded and free of bias: in other words, I learned to enter situations without prejudice or tight and tiny opinions. Indeed, I became purposeful and saw my potential in improving the world through my research skills. More importantly, I turned out to be a keen observer, and I learned to watch and to listen: to people and to opportunities.
It turns out that a new door has opened for me this next summer, which is just around the corner. I will be moving to Philadelphia to work in a new lab and pursue an old dream: perform research in the field of oncology. I cannot deny the influence that the professors at BU and the student services in general had in putting me in an outstanding position compared to other candidates. More than that, BU taught me to become a better person by being a ‘better scientist.' Because of this experience I have far more to contribute to Brazilian science and education as the future researcher and professor that I aim to be.
After summer I shall go back to Brazil to finish my degree. I will come back home even more motivated to do my best, to raise the bar, and enhance my academic performance. This experience has contributed to firmly establish the grounds of my academic career, gearing me towards graduate school. Undoubtedly, BU will be my first choice. I will do my best to be accepted into BU’s Pathology program, which is one of the best of the country. Perhaps you will hear news from me again, in this same platform, but as a graduate student.
Writing about my experience was like therapy and an opportunity to clear my thoughts throughout the week. Thank you for letting me share my journey with you. I am pretty sure this is not a “Good-bye” but a “See you Later."
I wish you the very best experience at BU!
