Spring Effects and the Boston Marathon

I feel like the season for heavy coats is finally over!

Usually I leave home to go to work early in the morning, so I am always prepared for the icy breath of Boston's mornings.  By the time I get home around 9 pm, it's already too late or to windy to enjoy the weather outside.

This week was different!  We started out the week with a huge event in our city:  the Boston Marathon - an opportunity to welcome tons of people to our town and an invitation to all Bostonians to go outside.  The sun was shining up in the sky, the runners were sweating, and a huge audience was cheering for their friends, relatives, or just for fun.

While I was there I felt something different about the environment.  People were full of energy, smiling, cheering, jumping, and laughing.  I then understood how the spring weather had boosted their moods.

As I walked through the streets, I could confirm the effects of Vitamin D in people's behavior:  young folks cooking BBQ in their yards, BU and MIT students having fun together and listening to music in front of their Frats, and a lot of people just lying at BU beach and enjoying the rays of sun.

Now, every morning when I catch the shuttle to the Medical Campus, I can really see people’s faces - that were hidden by hoods during the winter season.  And I can tell: people are much happier.  I am glad spring has finally arrived!

The Boston Marathon is one of the most prestigious athletic competitions in the entire state. There are lots of people who are not even allowed to join this competition. I used to run and compete back when I was a little bit younger, and believe me, it was hard. I was confident in my athletic gifts back then, but I was still unable to go and win the thing. I am going to try again this year, and I hope to get results.
