Most of the classes offered at MET International happen during the evening or Saturday mornings. This schedule was designed to allow foreign students to enjoy the majority of their time in the city and also to assist those students who work during the day.
But how to make the most of your free hours during the day?
Planning your life:
Sleep. The first rule I follow is to rise early and go to bed early. You can’t imagine how productive mornings can be when you aren’t sleeping. And going to sleep before midnight can guarantee that you won’t be tired the following day.
Create a schedule! This is the best way to find windows to fit everything in that you want to do during the day. Referring often to your calendar will help you keep focused on your academic and personal goals. Your academic work should always come first when it comes to prioritizing your time. Therefore, to keep track of your commitments, identify what needs to be read, reviewed, or written for each course. List specific chapters and pages. Then review test schedules and long-term assignments and specify time for preparation.
Be part of a research group. Having free-shifts are really a blessing if you are looking for part-time opportunities. Specifically in research, you can volunteer to follow a project twice a week, for example.
Use daylight hours productively. Research shows that each hour used for study during the day is equal to one and one-half hours used at night.
Save some time for having real meals. It’s crucial that you actually have time for eating properly. Take a seat and enjoy the food, do not just eat whatever unhealthy and fast-snack you can find.
Exercise! Believe it or not, I am a very lazy person. But keep my advice: there is no way you will REGRET exercising. Every time I go to the gym in the morning, I feel that I start my day refreshed and full of energy. Don’t skip this important part of your day!
Save some time for yourself! It's an unrealistic expectation to think that you will only study and attend to classes. Your brain needs a break. Make sure to allow yourself time to do whatever you like the most! Go for a walk along the Charles River, invite your friends to watch some movies, go shopping, listen to some music, go to concerts, or just hang out for an hour or so at night with friends over dinner.
